SCHEDULING & RESCHEDULING GAMES
MSSL - CJYSA or USCL - offers flexibility with regard to game schedules. Initial game schedules will indicate weekend dates only. These dates are suggested dates based upon the availability given by both teams prior to the start of the season. If there is an issue with travel, the teams MUST contact the league administrator with the concern.
Game times are usually arranged by the home team through their respective club field assigners, but ONLY after written agreement with the visiting team that the time and date are acceptable. The league policy is: Both teams MUST AGREE on the DAY, DATE and TIME of the match before it is considered a set match and CONFIRM IN WRITING! No home team shall set a time without the agreement of the away team more than 7 days prior to the date. Game dates may be changed by the participating teams ONLY by mutual agreement of the match teams.
If mutually agreed upon by home and away team, the date may be changed. For example, a Sunday game may be played on Saturday, or Friday night, part of a round robin or a week night. There is no requirement that a scheduled game must be played on a Sunday. Teams and league shall work together and arrange central sites for games and/or round robins for the convenience of traveling teams.
TEAMS HAVE THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF THE SEASON TO SET ALL THEIR LEAGUE GAMES!
Teams MUST communicate within the first 2 weeks and set the dates and times of their matches. It is unacceptable for either team to wait until later (or within 2 weeks of the game date) to set the game date and time. All other leagues require teams to set their game schedules in advance, and we require the same.
IF THE GAME DATE IS NOT CHANGED IN THE FIRST TWO WEEKS, then the date that is shown is the GAME DATE! Both teams shall be locked into that game date. Home team will then set the game time and the opposing team has 10 days to respond to the game time. If there is no response-confirmation or request for change, then the game time is locked. Lack of response by the opposing team will be taken as confirmed.
It is the responsibility of each team to monitor their game schedules to be sure they remain accurate and confirmed in writing with the opposing teams. Only home teams may change the schedule, so if a game is suddenly changed without the prior approval of the away team, it is the responsibility of the away team to monitor for any changes once confirmed.
A game TIME can only be changed at the request of the assignor for assigning referees. This is done on rare occasions. These requests usually will require no more than a 1 hour maximum time change. If an assignor is asking for more than 1 hour, contact the league immediately.
Additionally, the teams CANNOT CANCEL the game other than for acceptable reasons! No more requesting a change because the coach is unavailable or the kids have a birthday party. Coaches will know if they have conflicts early on with their various teams and other coaching arrangements can be made. Schedulers must know the team/coach schedule in advance and schedule their matches in the first two weeks around that schedule.
If a team continues to win in NJYS state cup, the team shall notify the opponent no later than the Sunday night prior to the scheduled match and let the team know they are unable to play due to state cup if the state cup match conflicts with the scheduled league match. If your state cup match is Saturday, and your league game is Sunday, that is not acceptable for cancelling!
If two teams arrange a game within the seven day set/cancel period, and then for some reason cancel (other than weather or state cup), the cancelling team WILL be responsible for the FULL referee fees. These fees MUST be paid to the assignor within 10 days. Otherwise, the league will take action against the offending team.
NO TEAM MAY DROP AN OPPONENT FROM THEIR SCHEDULE and REPLACE WITH ANOTHER!!!!!
Once the schedule is set by the league, you are expected to play that opponent.
Cancelled games must have a reschedule date within two weeks of the orginal date. Do not agree to wait to reschedule. Get the game played. Waiting until the end of the season may mean the game never gets played.
There are only TWO valid reasons for cancelling a league match:
- weather, making the field unplayable; or
- NJYS state cup (ONLY). NJYS requires NJYS state cup matches take precedence over league matches. US Club does not have this same requirement, therefore US Club state cup matches are NOT a valid reason for cancelling league games!
